Van Gogh: Notte stellata sul Rodano (1888)
«…guardare le stelle mi fa sempre sognare, così come lo fanno i puntini neri che rappresentano le città e i villaggi su una cartina. Perché, mi chiedo, i puntini luminosi del cielo non possono essere accessibili come quelli sulla cartina della Francia?» Parole di Vincent van Gogh che esprimono abbastanza chiaramente il suo desiderio di libertà. Il dipinto in questione offre una incredibile varietà di tonalità di blu che rendono in modo stupendo l’idea del cielo illuminato dalle stelle della costellazione dell’orsa maggiore, così come appariva all’artista dal suo punto di vista nel 1888. Come ormai siamo abituati, il colore è spesso e le pennellate decise e solo apparentemente frettolose, con un deciso viraggio verso il celeste nella parte di maggior luminosità offerto dalle stelle. La costa racconta la sua storia fatta di abitazioni che fuoriescono dalle tenebre grazie alla luce fioca proveniente dalle finestre esposte verso il Rodano, ed ospitano uomini e donne inconsapevoli del loro ingresso nell’immortalità regalato da questa splendida istantanea.
